Japan offers many lucrative business opportunities for potential European investors thanks in part to its large and wealthy consumer market, its position as the world’s third largest economy and its strong innovation capacity. The country is also a world leader in research and development and was ranked second in terms of number of patents per capita. However, inward Foreign Direct Investment flows are still relatively low compared to global levels and foreign investors will be faced with many challenges before thriving in Japan.
